The challenge
Burlington has more than 16,000 buildings over 50 years old. From Church Street to the University of Vermont, the Old North End, and the South End, each neighborhood tells its own story. The city's approach to preserving that fabric, though, had become fragmented.
What we did
With preservation partners Gray & Pape, we prepared Only in Burlington: A Storied City of Unique Built and Natural Environments. The report makes the case for preserving Burlington, reviews the state of preservation in the city and its existing preservation regulations, and discusses best practices for the city to consider.
